Family Chiropractor Advice: Playing in the Snow Part I.

If you live in the part of the country that receives major snow falls, a great family activity is going out to play in the snow.  Playing in the snow with your children creates a fun family atmosphere, and also instills the love of the outdoors and the habits of good exercise even when it’s cold outside!  As a reminder from a family chiropractor, exercise caution and good judgment while playing in the cold and snow with your children.

McKim Chiropractic is a health care profession treat with Family Chiropractors Nampa ID concern deliberate for your particular problems. Meet our Chiropractic Center Nampa ID for the Whole Family Care.

A family chiropractor offers these safety guidelines for your consideration:
  • Layer Clothing.  Layering is tricky.  Too many layers and they'll overheat; too few and they'll freeze.  The key to keeping kids dry is conserving heat while still letting steam escape.  Start with a thin inner layer to keep moisture away from the skin. Avoid cotton as it soaks up sweat and holds it against the skin, accelerating heat loss.  Use a lightweight polyester or polypropylene fabric instead. Add two insulating middle layers (maybe a long-sleeved top and leggings) of similar materials, keeping them a little loose to trap insulating air between fibers. Top it all off with a wind and waterproof outer shell.
  • Protect Hands and Feet.   As the body conserves energy in the inner core, fingers and toes grow icy. Look for a quality mitten or glove (mittens are warmer than gloves) that offers insulation as well as waterproof protection. If you dress your kids in thick, heavy socks (stay away from cotton), go up a shoe size.  Too-tight boots or shoes reduce the insulating effects of socks and reduces blood flow to feet. Boots should be insulated and waterproof. Dry out and warm up the boots in between the rounds of play.
  • Dress for Attention.  Choose bright outer gear with reflective graphics on the front and back, shoes with reflective features, and/or reflective tape placed on clothing to ensure you and your kids can be seen in all weather conditions.
  • Protection from UV rays.  According to the American Academy of Dermatology, snow reflects 80 percent of UV rays. UV radiation exposure increases along with altitudes.  Sun block with an SPF of at least 30 is a must for skiers and snowboarders.  Either goggles or sunglasses with UV protection are also important protection for eyes.  Don’t forget the SPF lip balm.
To sum it up, remember C.O.L.D.:

C—Cover hands and head with a hat and gloves or mittens to preserve heat.
O—Avoid Overexertion. Bring kids in for periodic breaks.
L —Layers. Dress in loose-fitting, lightweight, and water-repellent clothes.
D —Keep Dry. If kids get snow in their boots, have wet mittens, or are sweating, change them into dry clothes immediately.

If you or your child experiences any pain or discomfort resulting from any outdoor activities, call a family chiropractor at McKim Chiropractic for more information and to schedule a consultation.  Our licensed and certified staff is committed to helping the children of Boise, IDNampa, ID, and Caldwell, ID get a head-start for a healthy life!

What Kind of Low Back Pain Treatment do I need?

The type of low back pain treatment you need will depend upon your history and the type and severity of pain. The vast majority of lower back pain cases get better within six weeks without surgery or medication.  However, if pain persists or worsens, your doctor of chiropractic may prescribe a combination of the following low back pain treatment:

McKim Chiropractic is a health care Low Back Pain Treatment Nampa ID vital to the injured athlete with Chiropractors Clinic Nampa ID concern deliberate for your particular problems.
  • Rest: Limited to one to two days, rest will allow the injured tissue and nerve roots to begin to heal, which in turn helps relieve lower back pain.  Any longer will lead to a weakening of the muscles.
  • Heat and Ice: An application of ice and/or heat (alternately) on the lower back helps to reduce inflammation.
  • Spinal Manipulation: Manipulation for acute back problems has been used primarily by Doctors of Chiropractic (DCs) for the last century.  It is an effective safe and drugless form of treatment which reduces pain, decreases medication, rapidly advances physical therapy, and requires very few passive forms of treatment, such as bed rest.
It is advisable to seek a diagnosis to determine the underlying cause of lower back pain and seek appropriate treatment.  A physical exam will be conducted to assess nerve function and motion in the lower back. Sometimes diagnostic tests (such as an x-ray or MRI) will be recommended to better assess the anatomy of the spine and determine the appropriate course of care.

There is another non-invasive, non-surgical low back pain treatment option available—the DRS Protocol™.  Following a thorough examination of your condition, a course of low back pain treatment will be customized uniquely for you.  This is a slow gentle process, so it allows the muscles and tendons to respond to the treatment. Motorized and computerized spinal decompression allows the ability to target the injured disc, creating better results than traction.

The chiropractors at McKim Chiropractic specialize in low back pain treatment with the DRS Protocol™, a non-surgical alternative treatment for back pain associated with spinal and disc problems.  Call McKim Chiropractic today or http://www.mckimchiropractic.com for more information and to schedule a consultation. 5 Chiropractic Adjustment Techniques

The most significant and important aspect of chiropractic treatment is the spinal adjustment. Don’t put off getting the right chiropractic adjustment, from hands-on manipulation to instrument-assisted adjusting to relieve aches and pains. The right chiropractic adjustment can help prevent and reduce the wear and tear on our joints and ligaments, resutling from our everyday activities to extreme sports. When the spine is in the proper functional position, the joints and ligaments operate as designed with fluid motion.

McKim Chiropractic is a health care Chiropractic Adjustment Nampa ID vital to the injured athlete with Family Chiropractors Nampa ID concern deliberate for your particular problems.

From the founding of the chiropractic profession in 1895 to present day, chiropractic adjustments (manipulation of the spine) have been used to help relieve pain and improve joint function—without invasive surgery!

The five chiropractic adjustment techniques described below are commonly used in chiropractic offices:

  1. Gonstead technique -- This hands-on technique involves adjusting the low back or pelvis as the patient lies on his or her side. It is used to realign joints, reduce pain and stiffness, and increase mobility.
  2. Activator technique -- A handheld instrument delivers a gentle impulse into the vertebral segments of the spine, or the extremities, and is used to treat everything from low back pain to migraines. The force feels like a light thumping sensation.
  3. Flexion distraction – This technique is generally used to treat disc herniations, facet joint pain, scoliosis and other conditions. Lying on a specially designed adjusting table, patients will feel a gentle stretching motion.
  4. Thompson, or drop table, technique -- This involves a specially adapted table with padded platforms designed to drop a fraction of an inch when the chiropractor applies a quick thrust to make an adjustment to a patient’s spine or extremities.
  5. Diversified technique – This technique feels similar to the Gonstead, however, it involves very precise hands-on thrusts aimed at restoring proper movement and alignment to the spine and extremities.

There are two questions to ask your chiropractor when considering chiropractic adjustment:

  • Which type of technique (or combination of techniques) will be used for my specific issues? Ask to have the various chiropractic adjustment techniques thoroughly explained.
  • Are there any risks associated with the treatment? Your chiropractor can assure you of the safety of chiropractic treatment.
A chiropractic adjustment can change your life! Call McKim Chiropractic today or go online to http://www.mckimchiropractic.com to schedule an examination and consultation. Spinal Decompression Treatment 101

Spinal decompression treatment has been approved by the Federal Drug Administration as an alternative and safe method of relieving the pain caused by bulging or herniated discs, as well as pain in the back, legs, neck and arm.  A spinal decompression treatment is a non-invasive health alternative, much safer and often more effective than injections, spinal surgery and anesthesia.

McKim Chiropractic is a health care profession treat with Spinal Decompression Treatment Nampa ID care for relief of pressure. Consider Wellness Chiropractic Nampa ID treatment, the safe, non-surgical alternative with us.

Here are a few common questions that chiropractors are asked regarding non-surgical spinal decompression treatment:

  • What causes low back pain? The spinal cord is protected by the vertebrae, which are made of bone. Between each vertebra are soft discs with a ligamentous outer layer. These discs function as shock absorbers to protect the vertebra and the spinal cord. Many of the problems that cause back pain can be caused by a number of factors from injuries to the effects of aging, such as herniation and degeneration of the intervertebral disc. Degeneration is a process where wear and tear causes deterioration of the disc. Herniations, or bulging of the disc, are protrusions from the disc that press on surrounding nerves, causing pain or numbness.
  • How long does it take to complete spinal decompression treatment and when will I see results? Patients remain on the system for 30-45 minutes, daily for the first 2 weeks, three times a week for the following 2 weeks, and followed up by two times a week for the last 2 weeks. Most patients report a reduction in pain after the first few sessions. Typically, significant improvement is obtained by the second week of treatment.
  • Do I qualify for Spinal Decompression treatment? A thorough examination is essential before beginning spinal decompression treatment. Not everyone qualifies for spinal decompression treatment. Some of the criteria are:
    • Pain due to herniated and bulging lumbar discs that is more than four weeks old
    • Recurrent pain from a failed back surgery that is more than six months old.
    • Persistent pain from degenerated disc not responding to four weeks of therapy.
    • Patients available for four weeks of treatment protocol.
    • Patient at least 18 years of age.
  • Are there any side effects or risks to the treatment? Most patients do not experience any side effects. Spinal Decompression is totally safe and comfortable.

Chiropractic Therapy: The Way to Live!

Body aches and pains affect so many aspects of everyday life; you absolutely can't live without finding relief from your pain regardless of where you experience that pain. Whether you know exactly what is wrong or you just have a list of symptoms, chiropractor therapy can improve your life through an array of possibilities. Back pain ranks among the most common problems that bring people to chiropractors. Research shows that one out of every three people who suffers from low back pain seeks chiropractic care, making it the most utilized healthcare practice outside of conventional medicine.

McKim Chiropractic is a health care profession treat with Chiropractic Therapy Nampa ID concern deliberate for your particular problems. Meet our Dr Of Chiropractic Nampa ID for the Whole Family Care.

Chiropractic therapy uses spinal manipulation for treatment of low back pain (particularly chronic pain), neck pain, muscle tension headaches, and several other conditions. Performed properly, it can relieve musculoskeletal discomfort as well as improve the circulation of blood. Chiropractic theraphy focuses on correcting structural misalignments in the body to alleviate discomfort.

Three methods of Chiropractic Therapy:

  • Manual Manipulation--Dynamic Thrust -- a low speed, high force movement (often accompanied by a popping or cracking sound) used to adjust and realign the vertebrae. This technique may cause a feeling of anxiety followed by relief.
  • Activator method – Chiropractors trained in this technique use a handheld device incorporating a tension spring and plunger that produces a pulse of low force at high speed.  This technique is less painful than dynamic thrust manipulations.
  • Massage Therapy -- Massage therapy is used in conjunction with chiropractic therapy and focuses on eliminating muscle spasm and trigger points--areas of irritability in the muscle that may feel like lumps or knots.  It is most effective when used prior to chiropractic treatment.
Chiropractic therapy stresses the importance of the spine on general mind and body health. A chiropractor who looks beyond the spine is helpful in restoring and preserving health.  Life style changes may be recommended, including home-based exercises, stress-reduction techniques and sound dietary advice that may include the prudent use of supplements. Treatment should leave you feeling more competent to care for yourself, and most of all, it should result in your feeling better promptly.

The Facts about Spinal Decompression Therapy.

Spinal decompression therapy is approved by the Federal Drug Administration to relieve pain in the back, legs, neck and arm caused by a bulging or herniated disc. Spinal decompression therapy is a non-invasive form of therapy, an alternative to injections, medication, or surgery.

McKim Chiropractic is a health care profession treat with Spinal Decompression Therapy Nampa ID care for relief of pressure. Consider Chiropractic Office Nampa ID treatment, the safe, non-surgical alternative with us.

A few common causes of back pain are:

  • Your Job - lifting, pulling, or anything that twists the spine, or sitting at a desk all day.
  • Your Bag – an overstuffed bag, especially if you carry it day after day.
  • Your Workout -- Overdoing it is one of the most common causes of overextended muscles, especially if you tend to be inactive during the work week.
  • Your Posture -- Your back supports weight best when you don't slouch.  Sit with good lumbar support for your lower back, shoulders back, and feet resting on a low stool. When standing, keep weight evenly balanced on both feet.
  • Herniated Disc -- The spine's vertebrae are cushioned by gel-like discs that are prone to wear and tear from aging or injuries. A weakened disc may rupture or bulge, putting pressure on the spinal nerve roots, causing intense pain.
  • Other Chronic Conditions -- Several chronic conditions can lead to low back pain, such as spinal stenosis (a narrowing of the space around the spinal cord, putting pressure on the spinal nerves), spondylitis (chronic back pain and stiffness due to severe inflammation of the spinal joints), fibromyalgia (widespread muscle aches, including back pain).

How does Spinal Decompression Therapy work?

Spinal decompression therapy relaxes the spine through specific positions. The spinal disc is put under "negative pressure," to pull the herniated disc material back inside through a vacuum effect. Because of the decrease in pressure in the discs, spinal decompression stimulates the blood supply and promotes healing.

In addition to spinal decompression therapy, a chiropractor may use other treatments, such as manipulation, massage, acupuncture, physical therapy, and exercise. A combination of these treatments will help re-educate muscles, ligaments, and tendons, creating a healthier disc environment.

Spinal decompression therapy can correct the interference to your life and help you do want you want to do again!  The DRS Protocol™, an innovative form of spinal decompression therapy, may be the solution for you!  This treatment provides outstanding results, providing relief from pain for many patients whose conditions would have traditionally made them candidates for surgery or other invasive treatments.

Safety Tips from a Sports Chiropractor : Prevent Injury!

As many children and teenagers are headed back to school, they will be at risk of accidents and injuries. For those who participate in organized sports, the chance of injury increases. A sports chiropractor offers some safety tips on how your child (and even the coach) can make it home without a pulled muscle or twisted ankle!

McKim Chiropractic is a health care Sports Chiropractor Nampa ID vital to the injured athlete with Chiropractic Adjustments Nampa ID concern deliberate for your particular problems.
  • Warm Up. Warming up prepares your body and mind for your upcoming activity.  It stretches the ligaments and warms the muscles preparing them for vigorous activity. It actually improves the functionality of your body. What you'll get is a decreased risk for a muscle or tendon strain because after warming up it becomes more pliable.
  • Cool Down.  Many people consider cooling down a waste of time.  However, cooling down can help avoid post workout soreness. It also helps your heart to return to its pre-workout rhythm.
  • The Right Gear. Using the correct equipment fitted for your body will help avoid injury from either activity or collision. Whether its pads, shoes, a helmet or a uniform, finding and wearing the right gear for your sport will help prevent injury.  Gear (pads, helmets or shoes) that is too small or too large can do more harm than good.  Ask for help from a professional who knows how everything should fit according to body size, age and weight. And since footwear is important in most sports, make sure you are wearing appropriately fitted shoes that are supportive and snug but not tight.
  • Prepare Mentally.  Playing alert and prepared are also precautions that will help prevent injuries.
Sports injuries can range from headaches to broken bones. Going into a game prepared mentally and physically can help you avoid aches and pains that are unnecessary.

In case of an injury, get back in the game with treatment from a sports chiropractor! Call McKim Chiropractic or go on-line to http://www.mckimchiropractic.com for more information and to schedule an appointment.  We provide chiropractic adjustments, kinesiotaping, or intense directed massage as appropriate.  Our trained and certified staff is committed to helping the sports enthusiasts of Boise IDNampa ID, and Caldwell ID, stay in the game!

Need a Low Back Pain Cure? Causes of Back Pain!

Many people visit a chiropractic clinic because of low back pain, not understanding the cause. An effective treatment for the underlying cause can be spinal decompression therapy.  However, there are several culprits out there that are compounding your condition.  Changing a few habits will help decrease the levels of back pain you experience on a daily basis.  You can relieve and diminish the cause of low back pain by following the tips below. You could even call it a low back pain cure!

McKim Chiropractic is a health care profession treat with Low Back Pain Cure Nampa ID concern deliberate for your particular problems. Meet our Doctor Of Chiropractic Nampa ID for the Whole Family Care.

Consider these Back Pain Culprits:

  • Your Job -- If your job involves lifting, pulling, or anything that twists the spine, it may contribute to back pain. Sitting at a desk all day will also contribute to back pain, especially if your chair is uncomfortable or you tend to slouch.  Be conscious of how you perform your tasks.
  • Your Bag -- The lower back supports the upper body--including any additional weight you carry. An overstuffed bag can strain the lower back, especially if you carry it day after day. If you must tote a heavy load, consider switching to a wheeled briefcase.
  • Your Workout -- Overdoing it at the gym or golf course is one of the most common causes of overextended muscles leading to low back pain. You're especially vulnerable if you tend to be inactive during the work week and then spend hours on the weekend in strenuous activities.
  • Your Posture -- Your back supports weight best when you don't slouch. This means sitting with good lumbar support for your lower back, shoulders back, with feet resting on a low stool.
  • Chronic Conditions – There are several chronic conditions that can lead to low back pain, including spinal stenosis (a narrowing of the space around the spinal cord), spondylitis (chronic back pain and stiffness due to severe inflammation of the spinal joints), and fibromyalgia (widespread muscle aches).
Is there such a thing as a low back pain cure?  The best low back pain cure is treatment by a doctor of chiropractic to determine the underlying cause of your pain and then prescribe the appropriate treatment.  Schedule a consultation with a qualified doctor of chiropractic for a thorough examination.

Find out more about a low back pain cure that treats the underlying cause of pain.  Ask about the DRS Protocol™ by calling McKim Chiropractic today or go on-line to http://www.mckimchiropractic.com for more information and to schedule a consultation. Chiropractic Treatment:It’s Painless!

If you are tired of living with low back pain, neck pain, herniated disc, or shoulder and leg pain, chiropractic treatment may be the key to restoring the quality of your life!  Chiropractic is a health care profession dedicated to the non-surgical treatment of disorders of the nervous system and/or musculoskeletal system, focusing on spinal manipulation and the treatment of surrounding structures.

McKim Chiropractic is a health care Chiropractic Treatment Nampa ID vital to the injured athlete with Chiropractors Clinic Nampa ID concern deliberate for your particular problems.

Before you schedule a clinical exam with an unknown chiropractor, ask a few questions--either over the phone or in person.  Find out about the chiropractor's philosophy, expertise and general approach, and how it relates to your condition and preferences.

Once you have decided to go forward with chiropractic treatment, the initial office visit and exam will generally cover three areas:

  1. History and Symptoms.  Before your first chiropractic consultation, you will be asked to fill out forms that provide background information about your symptoms and condition, including:
    • When and how did the pain start?
    • Where is the pain located?
    • Is the pain sharp, dull, searing/burning, or throbbing?
    • Does it come and go, or is it continual?
    • Did the pain start as a result of an injury?
    • What activities/circumstances make the pain better or worse?
    • What is your family medical history?
    • Do you have any pre-existing medical conditions or prior injuries?
    • Who are your previous and current health providers?/
    • What kind of treatments have you received or are currently receiving?
  2. The Exam. A thorough exam includes tests such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and reflexes, as well as specific orthopedic and neurological tests to assess:
    • Range of motion of the affected part
    • Muscle tone and muscle strength
    • Neurological integrity
Other chiropractic tests may be necessary to assess the affected area.  Most chiropractic clinics perform X-rays.  If an MRI or other extensive imaging studies are necessary, they are usually referred to an outside center.
  3. Diagnosis.  Findings from the combination of your medical history, physical examination and any required diagnostic studies will lead the chiropractor to reach a specific diagnosis and determination if the condition will respond to treatment.  The chiropractor will discuss your diagnosed condition, the unique treatment plan designed for you, and the anticipated length of care.  Be sure to ask questions so that you fully understand the process.
Your pain levels, disability issues, and level of activity intolerance will determine the goals set for your plan of chiropractic treatment.

Restore your health, prevent further injury, and diminish pain with regular chiropractic treatment!  Call McKim Chiropractic today or go to http://www.mckimchiropractic.com/ for more information and to schedule a consultation.  Our licensed and certified staff is committed to helping the residents of Boise, IDNampa, ID, and Caldwell, ID live life pain free!

Back Surgery Alternative: Is there another option?

Have you been told that back surgery is your only option to relieve chronic back pain? The DRS Protocol™, an innovative back surgery alternative, is an option that may be the solution to your problem. Many people who have been through the slow and painful recovery from back surgery once before, do not want to do it again.

McKim Chiropractic is a health care Back Surgery Alternative Nampa ID vital to the injured athlete with Sports Chiropractic Nampa ID concern deliberate for your particular problems.

If you're searching for a back surgery alternative, consider vertebral axial decompression therapy, a relatively new, noninvasive form of traction-like therapy for low back pain. In principle, this decompression therapy works by alternately stretching and relaxing the lower spine, thereby relieving pressure on structures in the back (the "cushion" disks and vertebral bones) that cause low back pain.

This treatment is recommended for people suffering from herniated or degenerated disks resulting in low back pain and/or sciatica. Spinal decompression is not for everyone, including those with spine tumors, osteoporosis, infection, cancer, severe and unstable spondylosis (spinal arthritis), and many other conditions. If you are ruled out, don't worry, there is still hope for you.

The Issue of Safety

Is the DRS Protocol™ safe? There are some risks, mainly, development of sharp, burning, or radiating pain during treatment; stress to the shoulder and rotator cuff muscles; and overstretching of the soft tissues of the back. The patient participates by holding hand grips, and can always let go, a natural reaction if pain is experienced.

How Effective Is It?

Spinal decompression is used on patients as part of a comprehensive treatment approach rather than a singular solution to back pain. Though there is a high success rate with the DRS Protocol™not all patients achieve optimal outcomes. Younger patients do better. Typically they're less obese, have less [spinal] degeneration going on, more abdominal strength and better flexibility.

Follow protocol for the recovery process. Even though the pain may be gone, that does not mean it is healed. When it comes to treatment for something as fragile as an ailing back, it's imperative to exercise caution when choosing treatment. Before making a decision about spinal surgery, obtain the opinion of a doctor of chiropractic and find out more information about this back surgery alternative.

At McKim Chiropractic, hundreds of patients suffering from chronic and severe back pain and neck pain have been treated successfully with the DRS Protocol™, an innovative back surgery alternative. Each potential patient is given a thorough examination to determine whether they are a candidate for the DRS Protocol™. Call one of our three conveniently located McKim Chiropractic offices or go to http://www.mckimchiropractic.com for more information about a back surgery alternative. Our licensed and certified staff is happy to help the residents of Boise, IDNampa, ID, and Caldwell, ID, life a pain-free life.

Family Chiropractic: The Brain Connection.

When considering family chiropractic care, many patients do not understand the positive impact it can have on the well-being of the entire body. To help each of your family members achieve their full potential of health wholeness, seeking family chiropractic care should be a top priority.

McKim Chiropractic is a health care profession treat with Family Chiropractic Nampa ID concern deliberate for your particular problems. Meet our Chiropractic Center Nampa ID for the Whole Family Care.

Research has proven that chiropractic adjustments effect:

  • Emotions
  • Learning
  • Memory
  • Consciousness
  • Motivation
  • Homeostasis
  • Perception
  • Motor Control
  • Self-Awareness
  • Cognitive Function
  • Voluntary Movement
  • Decision Making
  • Touch
  • Pain
For decades chiropractors and their patients have been experiencing many positive outcomes that have gone well beyond the pain treatment they originally sought. In a recent study, researchers concluded that after thoracic (mid-back) spinal manipulation (chiropractic spinal adjustment), several brain regions demonstrated a reduction in peak BOLD [blood-oxygen-level–dependent] activity.

Chiropractic adjustments to the mid-back produced direct and measureable effects across multiple regions of the central nervous system, which is responsible for the processing of emotion, the planning and execution of voluntary movements, memory and decision making, processing the sense of touch and, finally, the descending pain modulation (the brain regulating the processing of painful stimuli).

Chiropractic is one of the safest treatments currently available in healthcare. When there is a treatment where the potential for benefits far outweighs any risk, it deserves serious consideration. What was once considered a "miracle," we now understand why chiropractic care can help the entire body work better.

Take care of the whole family with family chiropractic care! The family chiropractors at McKim Chiropractic will be happy to answer your questions and to evaluate the needs of each family member. What is Low Back Pain Treatment?

Low back pain treatment depends upon the patient's history and the type and severity of pain. The vast majority of lower back pain cases get better within six weeks without surgery. While sports injuries or accidents (sprained ligaments, strained muscles, ruptured disks, and irritated joints) cause back pain, sometimes the simplest of movements, such as picking up a pencil from the floor, can have painful results. In addition, arthritis, poor posture, obesity, and psychological stress can cause or complicate back pain. Back pain can also directly result from disease of the internal organs, such as kidney stones, kidney infections, blood clots, or bone loss.

McKim Low Back Pain Treatment Nampa ID is a health care center vital to the injured athlete with Wellness Chiropractic Nampa ID concern deliberate for your particular problems.

In conjunction with chiropractic care, there are several other common elements that are vital in the course of effective low back pain treatment.

  • Rest.  Stopping activity for a few days allows injured tissue and nerve roots to begin to heal. However, more than a few days of rest can lead to a weakening of the muscles. Weak muscles have to struggle to adequately support the spine. Patients who do not regularly exercise to build strength and flexibility are more likely to experience recurrent or prolonged lower back pain.
  • Heat and Ice. Heat and ice used alternately helps relieve most types of low back pain by reducing inflammation.
  • Medication. A wide variety of over-the-counter and prescription medications are available which help reduce the symptoms of lower back pain. Many reduce inflammation, which is often a cause of pain, while others work to inhibit the transmission of pain signals from reaching the brain. Each medication has multiple unique risks, possible side effects and drug (or food or supplement) interactions, which need to be evaluated by a physician.
  • Exercise. Exercise is a key element of almost any lower back pain treatment plan. A plan will typically include three components: aerobic conditioning, stretching, and strengthening. The goal is to build a stronger, more flexible spine. Low impact aerobic exercises, such as walking or swimming, helps bring oxygen to the soft tissues in the back to promote healing.
  • Chiropractic Adjustment (Manipulation). This will help improve spinal function by decreasing pain and inflammation to increase range of motion and physical function.
Patients should get a diagnosis to determine the underlying cause of their lower back pain and seek appropriate treatment.

There is another non-invasive, non-surgical low back pain treatment option available—the DRS Protocol™. It is a form of low back pain treatment for patients suffering from chronic and severe disc conditions, utilizing a "whole patient approach." Success rates with the DRS Protocol™ have helped patients who have not responded to traditional methods of treatment to achieve their goal of living pain free and avoid the risks of addictive medications and painful, invasive surgery.

Following a thorough examination by a doctor of chiropractic, a course of low back pain treatment will be customized uniquely for you. Our licensed and certified staff is happy to help the residents of Boise, IDNampa, ID, and Caldwell, ID, take the first step on the road to recovery.

Questions for a Dr. of Chiropractic.

No matter your age, a chiropractic doctor can help you with a variety of health conditions. A Dr. of Chiropractic is especially known for their training and expertise in caring for patients that suffer from back pain, neck pain and headaches by using a form of spinal manipulation (or chiropractic adjustment).  Many people, including children, who suffer from injuries and disorders of the musculoskeletal system involving the muscles, ligaments and joints, will benefit from the care of a chiropractic doctor.

McKim Chiropractic is a health care profession treat with Dr Of Chiropractic Nampa ID concern deliberate for your particular problems. Meet our Chiropractic Adjustment Nampa ID for the Whole Family Care.

Injury that involves or impacts the nervous system can cause referred pain and dysfunction in other areas of the body. Because our body structure affects our overall function, care received from a chiropractic doctor can also extend to general health issues, including counseling for diet, nutrition, exercise, and occupational and lifestyle modification.

Because there are many different techniques used by a Dr. of Chiropractic, ask about the type of treatment that will work best for you. Some chiropractic doctors perform joint manipulation with their hands only, others use various instruments. Some patients prefer the immediate feeling of relief offered by the "joint popping" type of spinal manipulation, while others cringe at the mere thought and prefer a low-force chiropractic technique. In short, chiropractic treatment is largely driven by the individual preferences of both the chiropractor and the patient.

Ask Your Dr. of Chiropractic:

Here are a few questions to ask your Dr. of Chiropractic which will help you gain a better understanding of the chiropractic techniques available. There is no right or wrong answer, but information that will help you receive the best treatment possible.
  • Which techniques are used and why? Many chiropractic doctors are experienced in a range of techniques, and will pick the one or ones best suited to your specific condition.
  • Is manipulation performed manually or with an instrument?

Consider Spinal Decompression Therapy!

If you are suffering from chronic pain as the result of a disc bulge, disc herniation, sciatica, or spinal stenosis, you may be a candidate for spinal decompression therapy. Simply stated, the term "spinal decompression" describes the relief of pressure on one or many pinched nerves of the spinal column, either surgically or non-surgically. If your medical physician has recommended surgical spinal decompression, you may first want to consider spinal decompression therapy, the safe alternative to invasive back surgery.

McKim Chiropractic is a health care profession treat with Spinal Decompression Therapy Nampa ID care for relief of pressure. Consider Family Chiropractors Nampa ID treatment, the safe, non-surgical alternative with us.

Are you a candidate for Spinal Decompression Therapy?

Seek the professional advice of a chiropractor who specializes in back pain, who treats the root cause, not just the symptoms. Spinal decompression therapy is promoted as safe and effective without the normal risks associated with invasive procedures such as injections, anesthesia or surgery. Many patients have actually stated that they look forward to the treatment, as it is usually quite comfortable and well tolerated, with the added benefit of treating and relieving their pain.

Spinal decompression therapy uses advanced computer technology with a mechanical traction device that controls the force and angle of disc distraction, reducing the body's natural tendency to resist an external force. This enhanced control allows non-surgical spinal decompression tables to apply a traction force to the discs of the spinal column, thereby reducing the pressure between each disc.

Consider spinal decompression therapy for back pain! You may be able to avoid back surgery. Seek the expert advice of our doctors of chiropractic at McKim Chiropractic for an examination to find out if you are a candidate for spinal decompression therapy. Call McKim Chiropractic today or go to http://www.mckimchiropractic.com for more information and to schedule a consultation. Our licensed and certified staff is happy to help the residents of BoiseNampa, and Caldwell, ID find relief from pain.

Low Back Pain Cure: What to do in the meantime!

Research data shows that over 31 million Americans experience low back pain at any given time. Many people visit a chiropractic clinic looking for a low back pain cure for this pervasive condition. Is there such a thing as a low back pain cure? The best low back pain cure is treatment by a doctor of chiropractic to treat the underlying cause of your pain. They offer a low back pain cure with a series treatments that includes exercises to adjust the spine and restore lost mobility.

McKim Chiropractic is a health care Low Back Pain Cure Nampa ID vital to the injured athlete with Wellness Chiropractic Nampa ID concern deliberate for your particular problems.

To help lessen your pain while going through a course of chiropractic treatments for low back pain, here are a few suggestions to consider:

  • Sleep Better -- When you don't get enough sleep, your back pain may feel worse. A poor sleep position can aggravate back pain.
  • Good Posture -- Poor posture can make back pain worse, especially if you sit for long periods. Don't slouch, and employ good ergonomic habits.
  • Medication – Medication can only relieve the symptoms of low back pain, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), acetaminophen, prescription-strength pain relievers, muscle relaxants, or antidepressant medications. Make sure you talk to your doctor about possible side effects before taking any medications.
  • Physical Therapy -- Physical therapists teach you specialized exercises to strengthen the core muscles, as well as how to sit, stand, and move in a way that keeps your spine in proper alignment and alleviate strain on your back.
  • Stay Active – Lying still can make back pain worse and lead to other complications. Exercise, such as swimming, walking or yoga, is one of the most effective ways to relieve back pain quickly.
  • Ice and Heat -- Ice will help reduce pain and inflammation. Heat (such as a heating pad or warm bath) will help relax your muscles and increase blood flow to the affected area.
  • Massage – Massage can improve pain and function for an extended period of time.
  • Nerve Stimulation -- Acupuncture or transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), may be added to your treatment plan if you aren't finding relief with more conservative care.
  • Behavioral Therapy – Some studies have shown that cognitive behavioral therapy is effective in the short and long term for relieving chronic back pain.
  • Biofeedback -- A special machine is used to train the brain to control responses to pain while learning to moderate breathing, heart rate, blood flow, and muscle tension. It has been found to be better than medication for easing pain and with no side effects!
  • Spinal Injections – There are different types of spinal injections to relieve the inflammation that is causing pain. Be sure to talk to your doctor about possible side effects.
  • Back Surgery – Because surgery is a risk and not always successful, it should only be considered as a last resort.
The first step to finding a low back pain cure is to schedule an appointment with a qualified doctor of chiropractic for a thorough examination. Before prescribing a course of chiropractic treatments, they will conduct several tests (such as x-rays, MRI's, CT scans, and bone scans).

Back Surgery Alternative for Degenerative Disc Disease.

Have you been told that you will just have to live with chronic pain related to degenerative disc disease? Is back surgery your only option? The DRS Protocol™, an innovative back surgery alternative, may be the answer you've been looking for. Before making a decision about spinal surgery, obtain the opinion of a doctor of chiropractic and find out more information about this back surgery alternative.

McKim Chiropractic is a health care Back Surgery Alternative Nampa ID vital to the injured athlete with Family Chiropractors Nampa ID concern deliberate for your particular problems.

Degenerative disc disease is the term used to describe the normal changes in your spinal discs as you age. Spinal discs are soft, compressible discs that separate the interlocking bones (vertebrae) that make up the spine and act as shock absorbers, allowing the spine to flex, bend, and twist. As we age, our spinal discs break down, or degenerate, which may result in degenerative disc disease, such as
  • Loss of fluid in your discs.
  • Tiny tears or cracks in the outer layer (annulus or capsule) of the disc.
  • Herniated disc (resulting from an injury or a fall).

Symptoms of Degenerative Disc Disease:

Some people may have severe pain in the back or neck pain, while others may have no pain at all. Where the pain occurs depends on the location of the affected disc. An affected disc in the neck area may result in neck or arm pain, while an affected disc in the lower back may result in pain in the back, buttock, or leg. The pain may start after a major injury (a car accident), a minor injury (a fall from a low height), or a normal motion (bending over to pick something up). It may also start gradually for no known reason and get worse over time. In some cases, you may have numbness or tingling in your leg or arm.

Treatment of Degenerative Disc Disease:

Your doctor should ask about your symptoms, injuries or illnesses, any previous treatment, and habits and activities that may be causing pain in the neck, arms, back, buttock, or leg. Your doctor should also check your range of motion and for pain caused by movement; areas of tenderness and any nerve-related changes, such as numbness, tingling, or weakness, or changes in reflexes, and any other conditions, such as fractures, tumors, and infection. Your doctor may consider imaging tests if your symptoms developed following an injury, nerve damage is suspected, or your medical history suggests conditions that could affect your spine, such as bone disease, tumors, or infection.

To relieve pain, put ice or heat (whichever feels better) on the affected area and use acetaminophen (such as Tylenol) or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (such as ibuprofen or naproxen). If necessary, your doctor may prescribe stronger medicines. If you develop osteoarthritis, herniated disc, or spinal stenosis, you may need other treatments which would include physical therapy and exercises for strengthening and stretching the back. In some cases, surgery may be recommended to remove the damaged disc, as well as fusing the bone permanently to protect the spinal cord.

At McKim Chiropractic, hundreds of patients suffering from chronic and severe back pain and neck pain have been treated successfully with the back surgery alternative, the DRS Protocol™. Each potential patient is given a thorough examination to determine whether they are a candidate for the DRS Protocol™. Low Back Pain Treatment: Treat the Cause!

The back is a complicated structure of bones, joints, ligaments and muscles. You can sprain ligaments, strain muscles, rupture disks, and irritate joints, all of which can lead to back pain. While sports injuries or accidents can cause back pain, sometimes the simplest of movements—for example, picking up a pencil from the floor— can have painful results. In addition, arthritis, poor posture, obesity, and psychological stress can cause or complicate back pain. Back pain can also directly result from disease of the internal organs, such as kidney stones, kidney infections, blood clots, or bone loss.

McKim Chiropractic is a health care profession treat with Low Back Pain Treatment Nampa ID concern deliberate for your particular problems. Meet our Doctor Of Chiropractic Nampa ID for the Whole Family Care.

There is another non-invasive, non-surgical low back pain treatment option available—the DRS Protocol™. It is a form of low back pain treatment for patients suffering from chronic and severe disc conditions, such as herniated discs(s) or degenerative disc disease, low back pain, neck pain, numbness and tingling of the arms or legs, sciatic pain, facet syndrome, spinal Stenosis, and failed surgery syndrome, this low back pain treatment utilizes a "whole patient approach." Following a thorough examination of your condition, a course of low back pain treatment will be customized uniquely for you.

Success rates with the DRS Protocol™ have helped patients who have not responded to traditional methods of treatment to achieve their goal of living pain free and avoid the risks of addictive medications and painful, invasive surgery.

Our patients can finally receive the care they have struggled so hard to find. Family Chiropractic Includes Everyone!

Family chiropractic care is for all members of the family—infants to seniors, regardless of age or gender!
* Infants – A newborn's spine may be subject to abnormal stress as a result of a difficult birth or pre-delivery position. Such spinal stress can lead to many health problems such as central motor impairment and development (such as sleeplessness, lack of coordination, seizures) impairment of the digestive and regulatory systems (such as vomiting, digestive problems, elimination problems), to lowered resistance to infections, especially ear, nose, and throat.

McKim Chiropractic is a health care profession treat with Family Chiropractic Nampa ID concern deliberate for your particular problems. Meet our Chiropractic Sports Nampa ID for the Whole Family Care.

* Young Children – The constant jumping, falling, running and bumping of a normal childhood often cause vertebral subluxations, with serious health consequences if left untreated. Keeping your child's spine free from vertebral subluxations will enhance your child's natural defenses against disease.
* Teenagers –There are three main reasons why family chiropractic care is important for your teen: poor posture habits (even if they don't see the negative side effects now, they will definitely feel it later on in life); they carry a heavy load (school backpacks keep getting heavier—they should not carry more than 10% of their weight); they play sports (injuries from playing high school sports can result in pain later in life). Regular adjustments can help them play better, feel better, and prevent injuries.
* Pregnant Women – Pregnant women undergo many structural and hormonal changes that affect the spine, nerves, joints, ligaments, connective tissues, center of gravity and stability. Free of vertebral subluxations, the mother-to-be can experience pregnancy at a greater level of comfort, health and vitality, and better handle the stress of childbirth.
* Adult Men and Women – For women, a healthy spinal column is essential for the health of the reproductive system. Many women are pleased to discover relief from menstrual and other gynecological conditions after vertebral subluxations have been corrected. For men, chiropractic care has proven to be effective for issues such as lower back pain, neck pain, better sleep, more energy, better workouts, improved sexual function, and less reflux.
Senior Citizens - Chiropractic care can improve the overall health of aging men and women in a safe, drug-free and non-invasive manner. Even seniors that have abused their spine throughout life can still find relief from back and neck pain.

Family chiropractic care can help each one achieve health wholeness!  Take care of the whole family!

Spinal Decompression Therapy: Are You A Candidate?

If you have chronic back pain with its related symptoms, you know how your life has been interrupted. You may not be able to think of much else except to find relief from pain. Some people turn to spinal decompression therapy--either surgical or nonsurgical. Here's what you need to know to help decide which one may be right for you.

McKim Chiropractic is a health care profession treat with Spinal Decompression Therapy Nampa ID care for relief of pressure. Consider Dr Of Chiropractic Nampa ID treatment, the safe, non-surgical alternative with us.

What Is Nonsurgical Spinal Decompression Therapy?

Nonsurgical spinal decompression therapy works by gently stretching the spine. It uses motorized traction that changes the force and position of the spine. This takes pressure off the spinal disks (gel-like cushions between the bones in your spine). Over time, this negative pressure will cause bulging or herniated disks to retract, releasing the pressure off the nerves in your spine. This then helps promote movement of water, oxygen, and nutrient-rich fluids into the disks so they can heal.

Nonsurgical spinal decompression therapy is used to treat the following conditions:

  • Back or neck pain, or sciatica
  • Bulging or herniated disks or degenerative disk disease
  • Worn spinal joints
  • Injured or diseased spinal nerve roots

Surgical Spinal Decompression—the last resort!

Surgical spinal decompression is another option for treating certain types of back pain, but it is usually used as a last resort. If other measures don't work, your doctor may suggest one or more types of back surgeries to relieve the pressure in your spine, in addition to spinal fusion to stabilize your spine. As with any surgery, there are risks, such as infection, bleeding, blood clots, allergic reaction to anesthesia, and nerve or tissue damage. Another risk of surgery is that it may not actually improve your back pain. It is often difficult for doctors to determine who will really benefit from spinal decompression surgery.

Do you feel like you have exhausted all options for relief from pain? If so, the DRS Protocol™, an innovative form of spinal decompression therapy, may be the solution for your dilemma! This treatment provides outstanding results, providing relief from pain for many patients whose conditions would have traditionally made them candidates for surgery or other invasive treatments.

You can get back to enjoying life—thanks to a revolutionary technology, the DRS Protocol™. Call McKim Chiropractic today or go to http://www.mckimchiropractic.com for more information about spinal decompression therapy. Our licensed and certified staff is happy to help the residents of Boise, IDNampa, ID, and Caldwell, ID, achieve your goal of good health.

Spinal Decompression Treatment: Does It Work?

If you are suffering from disc problems, consider non-surgical spinal decompression treatment to relieve back pain and other problems associated with spinal disc injuries. Anyone facing the prospect of spinal surgery should, if possible, get at least one opinion from a doctor of chiropractic to see if non-surgical spinal decompression treatment will work for you.

McKim Chiropractic is a health care profession treat with Spinal Decompression Treatment Nampa ID concern deliberate for your particular problems. Meet our Chiropractic Wellness Nampa ID for the Whole Family Care.

Nonsurgical spinal decompression treatment is a safe and effective alternative to back surgery. Other common alternatives used to avoid surgery include:

  • Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
  • Physical therapy
  • Exercise
  • Limited rest
  • Steroid injections
  • Bracing
  • Chiropractic
  • Acupuncture

Failed Back Surgery:

Spinal surgery is sometimes necessary in cases of trauma or severe bone, disc and nerve destruction (due to a variety of causes from infection to cancer). However, the vast majority of people with low-back pain and/or sciatica never need it. Of the thousands of surgical procedures done each year for ruptured discs, many of those are in the same or worse pain after the operation. Unfortunately, if surgery is not effective the first time, a second or third surgery will not help. Even so-called "successful" surgeries can cause scar tissue, permanent spinal weakness, distortion and instability.

Save yourself from unnecessary spinal surgery by asking a doctor of chiropractic about non-surgical spinal decompression treatment.

If you are suffering from a low back pain condition, please give us a call. Our doctors at McKim Chiropractic treat patients with the DRS Protocol™, a non-surgical spinal decompression treatment to relieve back pain associated with spinal and disc problems. Before prescribing a course of treatment, you will be given a thorough examination to determine whether you are a candidate for the DRS Protocol™ Therapy.

Call McKim Chiropractic today or go on-line to http://www.mckimchiropractic.com for more information and to schedule an appointment. Our licensed and certified staff is happy to help the residents of Boise, IDNampa, ID, and Caldwell, ID, live pain free.

Low Back Pain Cure: Is It True?

Chiropractic is a health care profession dedicated to the non-surgical treatment of disorders of the nervous system and/or musculoskeletal system. Generally, chiropractors maintain a unique focus on spinal manipulation and treatment of surrounding structures. Although chiropractors care for more than just back pain, many patients visit chiropractors looking for a low back pain cure for this pervasive condition. In fact, 31 million Americans experience low-back pain at any given time.

Research concludes that the therapies commonly used by chiropractors are generally effective for the treatment of lower back problems, as well as lumbar herniated discs, neck and shoulder pain, and other conditions to which there seems to be no easy solution. In fact, when patients with non-specific chronic low back pain are treated by chiropractors, the long-term outcome is enhanced by obtaining maintenance spinal manipulation after the initial intensive manipulative therapy.

McKim Chiropractic is a health care profession treat with Low Back Pain Cure Nampa ID care for relief of pressure. Consider Chiropractic Wellness Nampa ID treatment, the safe, non-surgical alternative with us.
